Applied Sciences and Humanities Department

The Department is established in 1984 and  engaged in teaching theory and laboratory courses in Engineering Physics to Semester I and Semester II students and presently educating 1200 plus B.Tech. students every year. In autonomy the department offers free electives (Electronic  Materials and Applications, Laser Technology and Applications) to students of Semester III & IV and (Nanotechnology: Fundamentals to Application & Crystal structure properties and Application) to the students of Semester V. It prepares and maintains teaching material for all these courses in the form of hard and soft copies. The material comprises of lecture notes, supplementary study material, interactive documents  and useful study links.

Department currently has eight faculty members and three Supporting  staff. All  faculty members are Ph.D. with area of research Ferroelectrics, Material Science  and Polymers.

The faculty members have published more than 100 research papers in International and National Journals, two textbooks and a large number of Conference papers as well as Copyrights, monographs and book chapters to their credit.

Department has got two well equipped laboratories with two dark rooms for optical experiments. A Laser room for demonstration experiment on Laser. Investment in these Laboratories till date is around Rs. 33.5 Lakhs. These laboratories provide a comprehensive practical exposure to the students through performance and data analysis.

The fundamentals of Physics are essential to bridge the gap between Science and Technology for the engineering graduates. The impact of Physics in modern society is reflected in almost every aspect of today’s technologically advanced world. Therefore, a sound and application-oriented understanding in Physics is a pre-requisite for the study of any branch of Engineering.

Welcome to the Department of Applied Physics at YCCE Nagpur. The Department of Physics is committed to serving the nation through ongoing innovation in teaching and cutting-edge research as per the new education policy of the government of India. We started our journey in the year of 1984. Over the last four decades, the department not only offers the students to explore fundamental Physics but also contributed in applied and interdisciplinary research. The department has an excellent Infrastructure and lab facilities to cater the needs of the stakeholders. The laboratories have been very well established not only to cover the complete syllabus but also to motivate students to learn beyond the syllabus. The research work of the Department is contributing strongly in the area of Glasses, Luminescence, Crystal growth, and Polymers. The Department has well-educated, motivated, and dedicated faculty members who are continuously involved in publishing research papers in SCI / Scopus-indexed journals and conferences. The department provides opportunities like curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities to instill holistic development in students.

Chemistry Departmental

About Department

Department of Applied Chemistry was started in 1984. The department offers a course in Applied and Engineering Chemistry for B. Tech undergraduate students. In addition to this it offers an Open Elective Courses on Battery systems and Management, Chemistry in daily life, Green Chemistry and Sustainability and Hydrogen fuel at undergraduate level. Our mission is to generate human resource in the form of engineers with sound base of chemical & environmental sciences for high professional competence and sustainable development.
Department imparts education to 1000 plus B. Tech students every year. The faculty consists of nine highly qualified and experienced faculty members. Six of them are Ph.D. and one is SET qualified. The department has one Associate Professor and eight Assistant professors. The faculty has published number of papers in reputed journals, national and international conferences, written books, have copyrights and developed educational material like DTEL, question banks etc. The faculty expertise includes the areas like Complexes, Catalysis, Environmental Science and Thermodynamics, Material Science, Organic Synthesis and Fabrication of Nanofibers. The department has two spacious laboratories spread over the area of about 285.56 sq m.
The laboratories are adequately equipped with relevant instruments to give first-hand experience to the students. The students are provided a comprehensive practical exposure to the various instrumental techniques required for the analysis, testing and research. Syllabus provides an integrated and unified approach to BE First Year students towards chemical sciences, covering all branches of chemistry, including advanced materials and its application to the engineering field.
The teaching learning activities are balanced with a number of other related activities, which include co-curricular activities, Special lectures on varied topics of academic relevance, motivational lectures, FDP, community development programs, blood donation camps, poster competition, presentations by students etc. .

To foster a strong foundation in basic sciences humanities with integrated technical and human value-based education, to enrich nuanced understanding for societal benefit.

Cultivate curiosity passion for exploring innovation and solving engineering problems. Encourage critical thinking, effective communication and ethical awareness for lifelong learning.

The Department is a vibrant place with 06 Ph.D. faculties out of 09 academic staff and dedicated supporting staff. The department encourages the faculty to attend seminars, workshops & conferences. The department motivates the faculty to publish papers in reputed journals, submit project proposals to funding agencies & enroll in the Ph.D. program. The department has well-qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty, who are a blend of knowledge and experience. The department provides a safe, positive & intellectual learning environment. The faculty aims to provide quality education to the student community by utilizing modern teaching aids. The strong basic foundation laid by the department helps the students to apply knowledge & to become successful engineers.

The Engineering Chemistry lab is well-equipped with major equipment and caters to the needs of the students. Our courses are designed to provide students with knowledge of Engineering & Applied Chemistry, and also introduce them to various experimental skills. The subject has become an essential part of the curriculum for all the branches of Engineering. Besides, the department has been constantly revising the contents of the theory and practical (laboratory) syllabi.

    About Department

    The Department of Applied Mathematics and Humanities of YCCE, is established in 1984. The Department has well equipped language lab with SANAKO Software and E-Classrooms furnished with advanced teaching aids to make teaching learning process more interesting and interactive. The Department has 18 dynamic, experienced and well qualified faculties with 10 Ph. D. and an average of 14 years of experience. Over 109 Research papers are presented by faculty members in various National and International Conferences and 88 Research Papers have been published in National and International Journals of high repute. Department received grant from department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, Government of India, to organize National Conference. Department has also received grants for minor research projects from MGI, Nagpur. The department has 37 Copy Rights and 8 Patents to its credit. Faculty members are resource persons for various conferences and workshops at other institutes and companies. Dr. P. B. Bahatkar is the recipient of Best Teacher Award by Indian Society of Technical education (ISTE), New Delhi and Dr. Mrs. Arvinder Kaur has been awarded most Promising Educator, honored by the International Association of Research and Developed India Organisation (India Education Trust, India) at the RACE 2019 Bangkok Award Ceremony. Guest lectures, workshops, SDP, FDP and academic activities are regularly conducted for the holistic development of the students as well as faculty.

    Welcome to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Humanities at Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering, Nagpur.

    Our department is dedicated to delivering high-quality education in Mathematics and Humanities to undergraduate engineering students. Mathematics serves as the backbone of all engineering disciplines, enabling the understanding of physical laws and the solution of real-world engineering problems. Through our meticulously designed courses, we aim to instill a deep appreciation for mathematical concepts and provide students with the analytical tools necessary to address complex engineering challenges.

    In alignment with the vision of NEP-2020, the department adopted the new curriculum from the academic year 2023-24. This curriculum offers a rich blend of core and elective courses, including Probability Theory and Statistical Inference, Combinatorial Theory, Fuzzy Set Theory, Arithmetic and Logic, Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations, Business Statistics, Finite Difference & Numerical Method and Vedic Mathematics. Additionally, students can opt for foreign language courses such as German, Spanish, French, and Japanese, enhancing their global competence.

    The Humanities section of the department plays a vital role in shaping the soft skills of students by focusing on effective communication, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and critical thinking key attributes essential for professional success. Our Humanities section also offers ironic core and elective courses, including Digital Humanities, Introduction to Political Science, Positive Psychology, Archaeology, Economics of Capital Market and Economics of Money & Banking.

    Our faculty members are not only excellent educators but also active researchers with publications in reputed national and international journals indexed in UGC CARE, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and SCI.
