Laboratories

  • A separate floor is allotted to Physics department in Science building with buildup area of 397.03 m2
  • Well equipped laboratory.
  • Two attached Dark Rooms for Optics experiments.
  • One Laser room for Demonstration experiment on Laser.
  • We maintain 18 : 1 students / teacher ratio in Lab and four sets of each experiment is available in the lab.
  • Maximum three students are performing experiment on one set up.
  • In all 14 regular experiments are available for the students.
  • Apart from regular experiment there are six demonstration experiments on LASER and Fiber optics.

  • Dr. S. A. Fadnavis and Dr.S.A. Band had set up Physics Lab of NPTI. Nagpur during 27-01-2003 to 27/2/2003.
  • The department has plans to explore and utilize the potential of the research areas being currently pursued by the faculty for consultancy services.
  • To study variation of Hall voltage with current and magnetic field; and to determine Hall coefficient and concentration of charge carriers.
  • To measure the amplitude and frequency of sinusoidal voltage obtained from the secondary of a step down transformer.
  • To study output characteristics of a N-P-N transistors in common base mode and hence calculate current gain α.
  • To study output characteristics of a N-P-N transistors in common emitter mode and hence calculate current gain β.
  • To study the static characteristics of semiconductor (Germanium and Silicon) diode and Calculate dynamic resistance and cut-in voltages for both the diodes.
  • To determine the radius of curvature of Plano-convex lens by Newton’s rings.
  • To determine the thickness of thin paper or diameter of thin wire using Air wedge arrangement.
  • *To determine the wavelength of sodium light using Plane Transmission Grating.
  • To determine the forbidden energy gap of a semiconductor by studying the temperature variation of its resistivity using four probe method.
  • To determine the forbidden energy gap of a semiconductor by using PN junction diode in reverse biased mode.
  • To measure the phase shift introduced by a phase shift network using dual beam CRO.
  • *To determine the principal refractive index for ordinary and extraordinary ray when refraction takes place through Quartz Prism.
  • To determine the dependence of Hall coefficient on temperature (New).
  • To study the dielectric constant and determination of Curie temperature of ferroelectric ceramics (New).
  • To determine divergence of laser beam.
  • To study the Fraunhoffer diffraction of a single slit and to measure slit width.
  • To study the Fraunhoffer diffraction pattern of a grating and to determine the wavelength of light.
  • To study the Fraunhoffer diffraction pattern of a circular aperture and to measure its diameter.
  • *To compute attenuation in optical fiber (New).
