About Department

Civil-DepartmentIn past years,Civil Engineers focused on design and construction of new facilities, such as buildings, bridges and highways, water treatment and environmental facilities, foundations and tunnels. Today's Civil Engineer not only has to design new facilities but must also analyze the effects of deterioration on infrastructure elements, considering environmental and economic sustainability.

Civil engineers must be equipped with in-depth knowledge of traditional, fundamental principles and new technologies in order to address the complex, interdisciplinary problems faced within society.

Being the oldest department of the institute, we offer a four-year course leading to the Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering with an intake of 180, two-year courses leading to Master's degree in two major specialisations of civil engineering as M. Tech in Structural Engineering with intake 25 and M,. Tech in Environmental Engineering with intake 18 .

The department of Civil Engineering is an active research center under the RTM Nagpur University and 20 Ph. Ds and 01 M. E. By Research degrees have been awarded and at present 10 PhD research Scholars and 03 ME (by research) Scholars are pursuing their research activities in the department.
The department is having separate self sufficient computer center computers, printers, scanner, softwares like Autocad, Staad-pro, Autocivil, etc and also networking and internet facility.

The department has produced several eminent engineers who have made significant contributions iin various sectors of Civil Engineering Field.

Mission

To prepare Civil Engineering professionals by practicing analytical, design tools, Field learning and live industrial projects in conducive environment.

Program Educational Objectives
  • To prepare students to succeed in employment, profession and/or to purse post graduation and research in civil engineering discipline in particular and allied engineering disciplines in general.
  • To provide students with a solid foundation in mathematical, scientific and engineering fundamentals required to formulate, analyse and solve civil engineering related problems.
  • To prepare the students to acquire the knowledge in breadth in order to solve mathematical problems related to analysis and design of various systems pertaining to different fields of Civil Engineering in order to utilize their skills to perform location surveying, cost estimates and activities related to Civil Engineering projects, using conventional and modern engineering tools.
  • To inculcate ethical practices and to establish understanding of professionalism, safety, sustainability, their duties and contribution to the society.
  • To provide students with academic environment that makes them aware of excellence and to enable them to understand the significance of life –long learning in global perspective.
Programme Outcomes
  • Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences
  • Design/ Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental Consideration
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems using research based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an under- standing of the limitations.

Program Specific Outcomes
  • Carry out structural analysis and design, develop minor project plans.
  • Examine geotechnical applications which includes the design of shallow and deep foundations, common issues in foundation construction, site characterization and rock slope assessment, tunneling and earth dam designs 
  • Carry out location survey and quantity survey for cost estimation of structures, including interpretation and understanding of civil engineering drawings.  
Programme Educational Objectives of M. Tech Structural Engineering Programme
  • To strengthen fundamental knowledge of Civil Engineering, upgrade knowledge of mathematical and computational tools for better understanding of analysis and design of civil engineering structures and systems.
  • To provide adequate knowledge of structural analysis and design techniques so as to enable them to solve real world engineering problems.
  • To provide academic environment to work independently and in a team , to initiate research in demanding areas and develop a habit of upgrading knowledge of advancements in technologies for sustainable development.
  • To inculcate professional and ethical attitude, effective communication skills to become successful professional and understand responsibility towards wellbeing of society.
